Aspen Valley Wildlife Sanctuary has welcomed a new permanent resident: SqueeGee, a snapping turtle estimated to be over 20 years old. Known for his lively personality, SqueeGee was transferred from the Royal Botanical Gardens after it was determined he could not be returned to the wild.
The move was co-ordinated by Zoocheck and Niagara Action for Animals, who also helped design a custom enclosure tailored to SqueeGee’s unique needs. His new home provides space to roam, soak and bask, ensuring all of his biological and behavioural needs are met.
Visitors on summer tours may catch a glimpse of SqueeGee outdoors, while in colder months, he’ll stay in a specially designed indoor habitat.
SqueeGee joins over 100 permanent residents at Aspen Valley, where animals unable to return to the wild are given compassionate, lifelong care in natural surroundings.
